Chang had asked Luling to join their family and Luling readily agreed. The family was talking about Lulings birth but she and Chang didnt know the truth.Lulign was excited at the prospect of being someone's wife
Luling still shared a room with Precious Auntie but they seldom spoke and Precious Auntie no longer fussed over Luling. They slept the farthest apart and during the day Precious Auntie kept writing.
At night she showed Luling the papers she wrote and when Luling read until the part about Chang, she was so angered she stopped immediately though she lied to Precious Auntie that she had finished it.
the next day Precous auntie was still angry with Luling and so she lwent out. That night luling fell asleep before precious auntie came back.The next day, a Chang woman came to the house demanding an explanation for a letter PA wrote but when mother rushed to P.A, she was dead. Mother got the cook to throw her body over the 'end of the world'.
Luling thought she was in a dream but it was reality. the changs didn't want her to join their family either. She finished reading the manuscript she realized the precious auntie was her mother, only it was too late.
The next few days, bad things happened, a fire occurred in the peking inkstudio and they had lost alot of money and weird things started happening so they hired a priest to come and collect precious auntie's spirit. after performing some ritual, he claimed that she was captured already.That day everyone was happy, except Luling. The next morning, Mother decided to send Luling away to an orphanage.

Luling:
stubborn-refused to listen to precious auntie and even when she gave luling the manuscript to read, she didnt.
bad tempered- when she was reading the manuscript and when she came to the part about chang, she immediately got so angry with precious auntie when she didnt even know what the manuscript said.
determined- even when precious auntie told Luling not to go to Peking for the macthmaking, she was determined to go.
spiteful- she liked seeing gaoling jealous of her because she had always been jealous of gaoling since mother favoured gaoling more.
Precious Auntie:
Loving-to her, Luling was her life and since Luling refused to acknowledge her as her mother she would rather die than face her. also, she said she would come back as a ghost and haunt the changs if they let luling join their family because she didnt want luling to suffer
most memorable moment
the most memorable moment was when Precious Auntie died because she played a huge role in Luling's upbringing and her end, brought Luling's life a new beginning.
