A detailed look into chapter 2 of part 2

The chapter starts off at Auntie Gal's 77th birthday. The whole Young family is gathered at Gaoling's and Edmund's home. When Gaoling went to the kitchen, Ruth followed, wanting to talk to her. Gaoling started telling Ruth how to cook tea eggs but Ruth was paying attention. Then Ruth began asking about her mother's past and all the secrets. Then Ruth told Gaoling about the mauscript. Then they began talking about the past and Gaoling's ex-husband.
Gaoling told Ruth where she got her name from. Ruth was amazed at how much thought her mother put into naming her. Then they began talking about money and how Luling was always interested in investing in shares. When Gaoling asked her if she wanted to know how much money Luling made from shares, Ruth realized she had had enough of the truth, she needed a break. She felt her mother was being denied the luxuries she should've had. Then they went back to talk about the ravine and the things back in the old days. When suddenly Dory came running to Ruth saying Luling had fallen into the pool.
When they rushed out, Art was carrying her. Luling said she saw Precious Auntie under the pool.
Later in the chapter, Art and Ruth were having dinner to celebrate their 10th anniversary. Apparently Art had remembered it while Ruth almost forgot. Both of them were talking about the first time they met at Nude Yoga. Then Art suggested that Ruth go over to his place after dinner and she happily agreed.
Character analysis:
Ruth:
Inquisitive- Ruth wanted to know more and more about LuLing's past.
Independant-She didn't need Art to survive and she moved on when things were rough and when Art finally realized the err of his ways, she realized it too, she she forgave him.

Art:
Sensitive: He knew how to make Ruth happy again and now, he was sensitive to her needs.

Themes:
Love- between Ruth and Art, the reconciling.
Family love- between Auntie Gal and Ruth

Favourite quote:

1) Ruth was amazed and gratified...into naming her
2)Yet she would not take love back from people
3)'Bao can mean precious or it can mean protect'

Most memorable moment:
I think the most memorable moment from this chapter was when Gaoling was explaining to Ruth what Bao Baomu meant. they way it meant protect and precious which was what Precious Auntie was to Luling. She protected Luling and somehow, she seemd to protect Ruth too. The several times Ruth used Precious Auntie's name to help her when she was in grave danger.
